~conclusion~

Greetings to all of you..trough this entries, we would like to conclude our entries that based on the topic we had chose. Environmental issue is very familiar but never stop as the environment is very critical right now..At the first entries, we had shown the effect of environmental issues that will bring out disaster to human being if the development is not handle in good care..

The next entries then shown about our own experience regarding the surrounding...Based on our experience, we are able to share and may be this will help others to know something and hopefully it will give consciousness in ourselves regarding the issues...

during the blog also, we had post a few things that can give that maybe we can involve in certain activities link to environmental and all of us might be one of environmentalist...

how to overcome air pollution?

nowadays, many disease had been recognized just because of air pollution..the increasing number of vehicles and factories had bring out the issues.. there were a few things that can be done in order to reduce the pollution...
1) use public transport to minimize the usage of vehicle on roads.
2) if using individual transport, share the vehicle if the place is same.
3) prevent the open burning, buried the scrap..
4) use low volatile organic compound (VOC) ..eg:paint

how to treat water?

hi guys! last entries from our blog were all about pollutions..Starting from this entries we would like to share about the technologies used in order to treat the pollutions..Water, the pollution that very critical as water is source of healthy life...these days people care about healthy life and a few technologies had been updated in order to fulfill the demanding of life..

Singapore is a country with lack of water supply..in order to reuse back the water, the country had developed newater technology which is the waste water especially from housing area is treated back and then discharge back to the river..the technology is quite expensive and produce high quality of water...

In order to minimize the usage of water, a few country had been cut down the consumption of water supply such as a few countryside in US had been regulate that owner of the car can only wash their car every three months and the data were recorded.. From a few examples shown, it showed that the source of clean water supply is very critical and human are responsible to fix the condition back to the normal

watch this!!

Everyone should watch this documentary that done by former US president, Al-Gore to educate citizens about global warming by his own ways that showed in slides about the issue. This documentary will show about the cause and adverse effects on global warming.

Throughout the documentary, Gore describe about the scientific opinion and the effect of the global warming. He also briefly describe the increasing of carbon dioxide based on past 650 000 years.. The movie itself will remind us that an earth is no longer like before as human extreme activities always done without care and concern to the future.

"Each one of us is a cause of global warming, but each one of us can make choices to change that with the things we buy, the electricity we use, the cars we drive; we can make choices to bring our individual carbon emissions to zero. The solutions are in our hands, we just have to have the determination to make it happen. We have everything that we need to reduce carbon emissions, everything but political will. But in America, the will to act is a renewable resource." - Al-Gore

~Noise pollution..~

Noise pollution is noise polluting the environment generates by human being and very subjective to discuss...For example, loud music or concert might be accepted as sound for certain people that love it but it can be noise if the people feels irritates about it..Noise pollution not very discuss in community but very important in industry especially in safety and health department...

There are few effects of noise pollution:

1) Annoyance
2) Sleep disturbance
3) Hypertension
4) Heart Disease
5) Chronic exposure to the children ( concentration difficulties, poorer speech discrimination and also effect the memory and reading ability)
6) Hearing loss

As a conclusion, noise pollution bring a lot of effect especially to human mentally and it is important to avoid exposed to noise and people should remember that not all that activities that we do generates sound to us but may be noise to others..

Hazardous Waste

What is Hazardous waste??
A hazardous waste is waste that poses substantial or potential threats to public health or the environment.

>>ignitable (i.e., flammable)
>>reactive
>>corrosive
>>toxic

Ignitable
Ignitable wastes can create fires under certain conditions, are spontaneously combustible, or have a flash point less than 60 °C (140 °F). Examples include waste oils and used solvents.

Corrosive
Corrosive wastes are acids or bases (pH less than or equal to 2, or greater than or equal to 12.5) that are capable of corroding metal containers, such as storage tanks, drums, and barrels. Battery acid is an example.

Reactivity
Reactive wastes are unstable under "normal" conditions. They can cause explosions, toxic fumes, gases, or vapors when heated, compressed, or mixed with water. Examples include lithium-sulfur batteries and explosives.

Toxicity
Toxic wastes are those containing concentrations of certain substances in excess of regulatory thresholds which are expected to cause injury or illness to human health or the environment.

sOiL pOllutiOn...

Soil pollution comprises the pollution of soils with materials, mostly chemicals, that are out of place or are present at concentrations higher than normal which may have adverse effects on humans or other organisms.

It is difficult to define soil pollution exactly because different opinions exist on how to characterize a pollutant; while some consider the use of pesticides acceptable if their effect does not exceed the intended result, others do not consider any use of pesticides or even chemical fertilizers acceptable.

However, soil pollution is also caused by means other than the direct addition of xenobiotic (man-made) chemicals such as agricultural runoff waters, industrial waste materials, acidic precipitates, and radioactive fallout.

The factors that how soil can be polluted.

The others example of soil pollution that totally effected to human and also nature..

Not only humans, animals also got effect caused of the soil pollution.

Open our eyes and see how serious of soil pollution to our life...Ask ourselfs do we want live in environment like that??? Started from now loved our nature as we love ourselves!!!

wAtEr pOlluTioN..

Another environmental problem is river water pollution. This is caused by the discharge of domestic sewage, pollutants from agro-based industries/farming, run-offs from earthworks and land clearing and effluent discharge from manufacturing activities. In terms of organic water pollution, human and animal wastes largely from piggeries and agro-based industries are the primary sources.

Water pollution is the next most important environmental complaints after air pollution. 363(10%) complaints were received in 2004. Efforts to reduce and control the discharge of waste water from the domestic sector focused on upgrading existing and building new sewerage treatment plants. Discharges of untreated sewage have contaminated the nation’s water; the most heavily polluted areas are along the West coast. Malaysia’s water pollution problem also extends to its river, of which 40% are polluted. The nation has 580 cu km of water with 76% used for farming and 13% used for industrial activity. Malaysia’s cities produce an average of 1.5 million tons of solid waste per year.

AiR pOllutiOn..

Current environmental issues in Malaysia are; air pollution from industrial and vehicular emissions; water pollution from raw sewage; deforestation; smoke/haze from the Indonesian forest fires.

The air quality in Malaysia remained at good to moderate levels as indicated by the Air Pollution Index. However, there were instances of air quality deterioration especially in the urban areas.

The major cause of this problem was usually increased concentration of ambient ozone levels and particulate matters from motor vehicles, sulphur dioxide from industrial activities and open burning activities. The haze in 2004, 2005 and 2006 from trans-boundary sources became regular occurrences in parts of the West coast of Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.

MISSION
To ensure sustainable development in the process of nation building.

The National Policy On The Environment

National Policy on the Environment which integrates the three elements of sustainable development: economic, social and cultural development and environmental conservation was formulated and approved in 2002. The Policy aims at continued economic, social and cultural progress and enhancement of the quality of life of Malaysians hrough environmentally sound and sustainable development. It is based on eight (8) inter-related and mutually supporting principles set to harmonise economic development goals with environmental imperatives:

>Stewardship of the Environment

What Can I Recycle?

What Can I Recycle..??
How Can I Recycle..??
Why I Need to Recycle..??

Many or us still don't know what actually recyle and how important of recycling. Eventhough Malaysia Environmental Department always doing a lot of campaign about recycling but we still not awared. So from nowadays lets we change our manner and give hand to our Environmental Department to safe our nature by recycling...

Firstly..asked ourself what actually recycling..?? And how much we concern about that..

"Recycling"means separating, collecting, processing, and ultimately using a material that would have been thrown away. Basically, the materials are reused, or remanufactured into new products. Some products, such as glass, can be recycled or reused over and over again. This morning's newspaper can be recycled into another morning's news. Many new products are being made from recovered materials.

What can we recycle?
There are four items that we encourage people to recycle. They are - glass, plastic, paper and aluminium.

All coloured and clear
glass, including drink bottles, food containers, vitamin bottles and
cosmetic jars can be recycled.
Glass goes into the BROWN recycling bin.

All types of aluminium
and steel cans like drink cans and food cans are recyclable.
These also go into the ORANGE recycling bin.

All coloured and non-coloured paper, newspaper, magazines, books, paper scraps, telephone books, catalogues, pamphlets, calendars, cards, envelopes, and carton boxes are recyclable. All paper items go into the BLUE recycling bin.

All coloured and non-coloured plastics such as: shopping bags, supermarket bags, plastic drink bottles, plastic mineral water bottles, plastic food containers, detergent containers and vitamin containers can be recycled. Plastic items go into the ORANGE recycling bin.

Wake up Malaysian...Lets we recyle!!!

Be environmentalist?

What is environmentalist?..Environmentalist is a people who takes care and works to protect the environment in order prevent adverse effect to the environment...
There are few simple steps in order to become environmentalist..

1) reduce solid waste by recycling
2) use biodegradable plastic
3) use aerosol (environmental friendly ) products
4) use public transportation (reduce air pollution)
5) minimize the usage of energy especially electricity
6) minimize using air conditioner
7) dispose waste in proper ways

By participate a few steps as above, everyone can be environmentalist..

People, let's change!!

Environmental issues are issues that never ends. This will keep continue into generations as nowadays, awareness about these issues is still low...From our observation, people care about health but not the environment...For example, they will make sure their cars or house keep clean but in other ways they just throw rubbish outside their cars or house not in proper ways...and although there were dustbin nearer, they prefer just throw away the rubbish everywhere..The generations that seen this might be follow this manner from their parents and will keep continue to other generations..As a parents, former education is important for their children about taking care for the environment...

Other than that, there also an issues about the uses of paper reload for cell phone...Let imagine if the reload paper is collected, and see at the end of month, how many kilos can be collected...and also receipt for bank..All of these might seen as small matter, but just think the impact of these..If we practice recycling, this all might be change as these papers might be change to other products and trees cutting can be reduce..

All these issues can be solve but it will depends on the human manners and civic consciousness.. The question is why its hard for people to take serious about the issues? Is there need to happened something to themselves then they can change thoroughly?? Is there were no tree left then they only worried about these?

~SaVE NaTuRe!!!~

Last weekend, Environmental Section had managed a trip to Tasek Bera located in Pahang Darul Makmur....The objective of this trip is to do water sampling and exposed student closer to nature.. the panorama is scenic as the place surrounded by trees and beautiful lake..On second day of the trip, we do water sampling in three point source that are upper, middle and down streams..Certain analysis been done that were Heavy Metals Detection, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), turbidity, and conductivity of the water stream.. The data analysis is quite shocked as the quality of water at upper stream is lower than down stream... The pH of water is acidic and the dissolve oxygen (DO) level is low..All of the quality of water is affected by the activities of native people nearby that clear up the area to planting rubber tree in large area without care for the environment. Effects from the activities is the lake become shallow as from records, the lake 20 years ago is about 20 m depth but now only 10 to 15 meters.

Beside that, the effect also can be seen as 'rasau' trees are grown in large amount showed nitrification process happened as in some place, there were only one boat can pass trough the 'rasau' trees...

As a conclusion, awareness about environmental issue need to be improve among Malaysians in order to protect nature resources for our next generation and law among native people need to strictly stated such as the limit to open new land for cultivation...

~LoVe Our EartH!!!~

Firstly, this is first time we involve in blogging and we had chose environmental issues as our main topic to discuss in our blog...As we can see now, there were a lot of natural disasters happens because of human activities and we as Environmental Student hope that our blog will give a little awareness to others and together we can share and do a little contribution to save our earth...as 2009 is leaving behind, there were a lot of natural disasters happens past years...

All natural disasters that happened is due to human activities and human themselves need to pay for destruction of the earth...Review back what had happened in 2009....Padang( Indonesia) attract the whole world as earthquake take more than 100 thousand people around Padang...

At the end of 2009 showed the big flood happens at the East Peninsular Malaysia that is in Kelantan and Terengganu that comes almost 4 times in a month....

As we welcoming 2010.....only about two weeks, world once again petrified by the earthquake happend in Haiti...Imbalance world climate had lead to disasters for human.......
